Cool Hobby Ideas - RC Airwolf Helicopter

Cool Hobby Ideas - RC Airwolf Helicopter

Rc Helicopter

More and more hobbyists are getting hooked to the fun and pleasure of flying an RC Airwolf Helicopter. This model aircraft is becoming increasingly popular among enthusiasts as well as newbies because it gives you the ability to control the device just like you're flying a real-sized helicopter--and perhaps even better because model devices are more capable of certain maneuvers such as backwards flight, hovering, and other freestyle techniques.

The Airwolf is actually modeled after the 1980s television series helicopter of the same name, and if you're familiar with it, you can see just how much it resembles the original chopper. Its trademark design is that of a sleek black finish with a white detail in the bottom part, but you'll also find other color variations such as grey and blue.

To give you some general information regarding this super cool and enjoyable hobby, go ahead and read the following points below. You might just realize that this is exactly the hobby you've been waiting for.

Model Types

There are basically two types of model helicopters:

1. Fuel-powered - uses nitro, petrol, gasoline or gas-turbine

2. Electric-powered - uses batteries

There's no definite way to ascertain which type is better because it really depends on each hobbyist's preference. To help you pick the right model, you need to know your budget and the specifics such as the power source, engine capacity, speed controller, brand, and so on.

Average Costs

If you're thinking of flying an RC Airwolf Helicopter as a hobby, the first thing that might enter your mind is the cost involved in purchasing one. The truth is that having your own model used to be quite expensive, but now that it's getting really popular, you will be thrilled to know that the prices have gone down significantly.

The main thing that makes the item costly is its type of power source. Fuel-powered models have always been more expensive--they can go from ,000 to ,000. But despite the high price, they always give quality performance and have longer flight durations (7-14 minutes).

On the other hand, battery-powered devices are more affordable. You can get them for as low as 0, and the more complex models may run up to ,500. Electric helicopters are common among most hobbyists because of its inexpensiveness, but they do have shorter flight durations (4-12 minutes).

Do keep in mind that prices vary according to the manufacturer, engine size and other factors. When purchasing your first chopper, be sure to know exactly what you're going to use it for and how much you're willing to spend. If you plan to enter flying competitions or start a collection, then you might need a more capable brand, but if you're simply using it for recreational purposes, then a more affordable but quality model will do.

Flying Mini Helicopters as a Hobby

Gone are the days when hobbies were only comprised of boring activities like coin collecting, knitting and bird watching. Nowadays, people have much cooler options and have the chance to really enjoy what they're doing. So if you're a hobbyist who's in need of a thrilling outdoor pastime, then flying an RC Airwolf Helicopter is definitely suitable for you! Go ahead and look for your specific model right now so you can start experiencing the breathtaking excitement that this mini chopper brings.

How to Fly RC Helicopters

How to Fly RC Helicopters

Rc Helicopter

Flying remote control helicopters is a great way relieve stress and be entertained by where you can fly the helicopter; however they do require some patience, good eye and hand coordination and practice. After taking the helicopter from the box, the first step is to read the instruction manual and make sure that it is intact. When purchasing a RC helicopter, it is best to find one that has at least four channels with adequate backup or technical support to call on if you need to do so. Some of the best remote control helicopters are manufactured by companies in Britain.

Learning how to fly RC helicopters is not extremely hard but there are a few basic facts to keep in mind. The remote control helicopters are controlled by radio waves; with the lift powered by the way the helicopter blades turn against the air and the direction is controlled by the pitch or direction of the tail rotor. One good idea is to have an experienced flyer help when you are starting to fly RC helicopters because he or she can give you tips on the best way to master the tiny tricks that make you a better flyer and able to handle flying the radio controlled helicopter in a faster amount of time.

The importance of making sure the connections on your RC helicopter all are correctly wired and tightened cannot be stressed too much, without the proper tension, the helicopter won't fly correctly and or can crash, bringing a halt to your hobby for a while. It is best to search for repair instructions and spare parts if they are not included with your kit. It is best to follow a checklist whenever you are learning how to fly your radio controlled helicopter; this is where doing everything the same for set up and starting will keep you and your helicopter safe.

To control the RC helicopter, you need to be able to operate the collective and rudder at the same time; both of them act together to make your helicopter move up, down, sideways, forwards and backwards. If you have a person helping you, you can use the buddy system which enables the instructor to explain and show how to fly the RC helicopter. To make the radio controlled helicopter, the controller on the left is the throttle, it controls how high or fast the helicopter is going, the right controller is used to control direction.

It is better to practice doing small maneuvers at first, before venturing into more challenging areas. Many people who are in the process of learning how to fly radio controlled helicopters invest in a simulator to help them learn how to maneuver, a crash on the simulator is much cheaper then crashing your RC helicopter outdoors, then having to pay for expensive parts to repair the helicopter. Flying remote controlled helicopters is a great way to spend time outdoors and making the helicopter hover and dive or do acrobatics. Keep practicing and find other people who enjoy flying RC helicopters as well as watching video or DVD's to improve your skills and your will have a lifelong hobby to entertain and amuse yourself and those around who will want to learn how to fly RC helicopters.

Big RC model aircraft show 2003 in Rheidt / Germany A very spectacular airshow where I was invited to fly and record a movie, here it is ! :-) I have been there with a self constructed "flying wing" aircraft (red and white one at the beginning of part 2 of the video), in which a pivotable 3CCD DV camera was mounted. In those days this was quite extraordinaire, especially because that camera was quite big and heavy and even though pivotable ! www.wildflyer.de

Which RC Helicopter Gyro Fits Your Flying Style?

Which RC Helicopter Gyro Fits Your Flying Style?

Rc Helicopter

The radio controlled helicopter gyroscope is an electric device that is made so that the body of the helicopter can revolve around it's axis.

The gyro is fitted between the rear rotor and the receiver. It is able to sense any chance in the rotation movement and atones the force switching the angle of the rotor, thus creating a force in the opposite location nullifying the effect.

There are a lot of gyro's available in the marketplace and price of each is different. The price of the gyro depends on which features it has from the factory. The more advanced it is, the more it will cost.

But for the most part, all gyro's provide the simple function of controlling the axial rotation of the heli.

Being a beginner, a constant hold would be nice to start. The constant heading hold addon lets you have complete control of the side, backward, and forward motions while keeping the helicopter tail still.

Sometimes this feature can be useful because it lets the beginner have complete control of the helicopter without worrying about the tail.

The most used brands of RC helicopter gyro's available in the market include Futaba, JR Futaba being the most used and is available in many models.

Futaba makes a wide range of radio controlled helicopter gyros with advanced countenance like AAVCS Active Angular Velocity Control System. These features make the gyro stable and very accurate while functioning.

The newest series being the GY from Futaba, which is made for all different models, like the GY240, GY401, GY502, etc.

All of my experiences with gyros have been easy to setup. Just simply follow the instructions and you really should not have any problems.

If you are thinking about getting into the RC Helicopter hobby, you will absolutely need to know about rc helicopter gyros and how they work. Luckily, if you read the part of this article, you do!

RC RTF Plane Insurance

RC RTF Plane Insurance

Rc Helicopter

When you're just starting to learn to fly your RC RTF plane, you're going to find out that accidents are common things. This doesn't in any way mean that you're doing something wrong, although you probably are, though it does mean that you need to improve a bit. Just because your technique needs to be improved doesn't mean that you need to have your plane destroyed and your chances of progressing any further stamped out now does it? This is why it's very important to make sure that you get insurance.

It is recommended that you at least have liability insurance on your plane, which will cover personal injury incidents. Personal injury could be anything from hurting someone else to damaging their property. For example, if you are out in some secluded field playing with your RC Plane, and you somehow manage to lodge it in the side of a falling satellite, then your liability insurance should cover it. Higher insurance packages will cover the accident even if you are at fault, so that's definitely something that you need to consider.

One thing that you need to take into account when you are purchasing insurance for your RC RTF plane is the fact that you will pay quite a bit more for insurance if your plane is powered by gas. The reason for this is that they're much harder to control and can be much more dangerous. By default the insurance on these is through the roof.

If you want good insurance you should look into joining the Academy of Model Aeronautics which is also known as the AMA. This will provide you insurance which is meant to be secondary to homeowners insurance. You will receive up to a million dollars worth of protection so long as you adhered to the AMA's safety regulations while you are learning. This isn't going to be much of a problem since most of those safety regulations are common sense.

The AMA also helps groups to obtain and hold onto flying fields along with other issue related to the flying of model planes. If you are so inclined there's a monthly magazine that you can get that outlines everything going on within the AMA, as well as covering all of the occurrences within the model aviation world.

The AMA is actually a good idea in general because many clubs that you can join will require membership. Since you're already paying for membership it's a good idea to just go with their insurance anyway. You will also find that AMA membership is a requirement for many contests.

Accidents happen, that's a fact of life. Whether you're at fault or the other person is at fault it's going to happen, so make sure that you have the right insurance. Chances are you know exactly what's right for you, so go ahead and see what you can find. Chances are this will help you out quite a bit in the long run! Enjoy your RC RTF plane!

The History of the Apache Helicopter

The History of the Apache Helicopter

Rc Helicopter

As the world's foremost attack helicopter, the AH-64 Apache had been designed to survive in combat situations. It was built with what turned out to be an award-winning design by Hughes Helicopters Inc. The Apache prototype was designated YAH-64 and first flew in 1975. Then Hughes in 1976 was granted a full-blown development contract.

The United States Army preferred the AH-64A Apache (new designation) to the Bell YAH-63. Hughes Helicopter was awarded the pre-production contract. This contract was for two of the Apaches. Then the Army gave the approval for full production in 1982. In 1984 the deliveries began out of the plant in Mesa, Arizona. By this time Hughes Helicopters was part of the McDonnell Douglas Helicopter Systems.

Advanced technologies like the TADS/PNVS were added to bolster the effectiveness of the Apache in supporting the ground operations. The same engines were used in this helicopter as in the Navy's Seahawk (SH-60) and the Army's Black Hawk (UH-60), the T700.

During the 1980s the design was improved by McDonnell Douglas and the AH-64 B had and improved cockpit and upgrades that included a new fire-control system. The funding in 1988 was approved for the multi-stage improvement of the weapon and sensor avionic systems and to add some of the digital systems. But then better technology became available and this program was scratched to make more dramatic alterations.

The Apache, because of it being heavily armed and highly manouverable, became the backbone for ground support, no matter what the weather conditions, for the U.S. Army. Then in 1992 the AH-64D Apache Longbow came on the scene, which was vastly improved upon from the AH-64A. The prototype for the AH-64D Apache Longbow was first flown on the 14th of May in 1992.

Testing was not completed until April 1995 after it had been proven that they AH-64D Apache Longbow had greatly surpassed the AH-64A Apache. In October that year full production was approved for the AH64-D Apache Longbow. Also a contract was approved to upgrade the AH-64 Apaches too. The first of the AH-64D Apache Longbows were delivered March 31, 1997.

It was in August of 1997 when McDonnell Douglas merged with The Boeing Company under the Boeing name. The total cost for the AH-64D Apache program was US billion up to and through 2007. Boeing delivered some 500 of the AH-64D Apaches to various clients across the world by August 2004. This aircraft features the latest in digital communications abilities to enable transferring battle information in real time along with having totally-integrated weapons and avionics. These improvements make this helicopter simpler to maintain, more readily deployed, and even more likely to survive. This helicopter is still in use today in a variety of countries including the United States.

Some specifications are listed below:

How To Setup an RC Helicopter

How To Setup an RC Helicopter

Rc Helicopter

The most important step in flying a R.C. Helicopter is the setup. If your helicopter is not setup right the bird will tip side to side, frontward or backward, or the tail could spin out of control. You can see the importance of a good setup.

1. The first step in setting up a R.C. Helicopter.

· Make sure all servos are moving in the right direction When you move the right side stick right the swash plate will tilt right etc for forward and back.
· Make sure the throttle is correct and the it does not need reversed in the radio also called the TX.

2. Now that the servos are moving in the right direction we need to center the servos.

· Turn on radio then plug in receiver make sure the motor is unplugged if working on electric helicopter.
· Move the throttle stick to half way this get all your servos to the half way position.
· Now we want to find the servo horn that will line up 90 degrees with center keep moving till you find one that is close or dead on make sure to put in the screw when you find the one that works.

3. Next is to level the swash plate you can buy a tool for your size helicopter or you can eyeball it. · To get the swash plate level adjusts the arms that run from the servos to the swash plate.

4. Next we need to make sure the washout block is level.

· The washout block is between the swashplate and the fly bar cage.
· Make sure that both arms are level with each other if not adjust the arm that comes from the fly bar cage until level. · Next we need to make sure the fly bar arms are level
· Make sure the fly bar arms are parallel with each other if not adjust the rod that attaches to the swash plate.

5. Next is to make sure the pitch on the main blades is set.

· When at center stick throttle make sure the main blades are at zero pitch
· Full stick should be between +10 degrees to +12 degrees depending on flying style
· Bottom stick should be -10 degrees to -12 degrees.

Now we have our head setup and ready to go. With everything level and working together we should have a stable flying machine this setup gives up the best chance to get off the ground. This still some things to consider in setup like pitch curves Throttle curves . Radio setup in general but that is a subject by itself.

The tail setup can be tricky sometimes I have found the best way to setup the tail is in rate mode get your servo centered then make sure your rod is adjusted I set my tail with a few degrees pitch on tail pushing the nose right too compensate for the main motor thrust on start up and to hold the nose straight in a hover. That about all the detail I can give not knowing the servo and gyro that is being used.

That all to the basic setup of your helicopter have fun be safe and keep it in the air have a great day!

Vintage Hirobo Gas Helicopter Restored and Flown by NightFlyyer.

Vintage Hirobo Gas Helicopter Restored and Flown by NightFlyyer. Video Clips.

I love the old Gas helicopters. The Hirobo Shuttle was first introduced in August, 1985. Since then Hirobo has released other types namely Shuttle X, XX, Z, ZX, Z Ts, ZXX, RG. Now Hirobo still produces the Shuttle series names Shuttle plus and Shuttle Sceadu. The Shuttle became known as one of the first ARF Helicopters. (Almost ready to Fly) The Head was typical for heli's at the time with individual 'flapping' blades and a tail rotor driven by a belt. Unusual though, was that it came with an auto rotation clutch as standard equipment thus giving the Shuttle aerobatic properties in the right hands. Mike Mas was famous for flying this helicopter inverted. Because of these extras though, it was expensive when compared to other manufacturers. Shuttle Z's without any accessories were 250, radio was 600, engine was 100, and a Motorized gyro was 175-250. Now over 25 years later the 'Shuttle is still one of the best entry level nitro helicopters on the market. By today's standards, this old Shuttle was not much of a 3D helicopter, but with some mods, loops, rolls, and inverted flight could be accomplished. It's heavy so it becomes much smoother than any of my 1 lb electrics. My shuttle weighs 6.9 lbs for comparison. Being that I'm getting older, I just love to watch my helicopter fly nice and smooth around the sky. It is a real treat, especially since the wind does not bother these bigger machines too much and it feels good. Specs: L with rotor: 1320 mm Width at skid: 220 mm ...

Flying a Radio Controlled Helicopter For Beginners

Flying a Radio Controlled Helicopter For Beginners

Rc Helicopter

If you have ever visited an RC flying club, you have seen, in all probability, one of the members flying a helicopter. The expert RC helicopter pilot can fly their craft in many different aerobatic maneuvers. Learning how to fly an Remote Controlled helicopter in that manner takes lots of patience and perseverance.

You can't fly an Remote Controlled helicopter unless you own one. The novice can be somewhat bewildered by the various models and options of Remote Controlled helicopters for sale. Sizes, options on the helicopter, the choice of electric or gas power, are only some of the selections. Making the right choice the first time can frequently be a hit or miss proposition.

When selecting an RC helicopter it may be best to start out with a less powerful and slightly less capable model. A novice learning to drive doesn't usually start out in a Porsche and the same concept applies to flying an RC helicopter. An entry level heli will give the beginner Remote Controlled helicopter pilot the opportunity to learn how to fly at a reasonable cost.

RC aircraft, helicopters included go up into the sky. Gravity brings them back down to earth. Sometimes when they come back to the ground that return is not in an entirely controlled manner. Crashes are going to happen and this must be kept in mind since it is going to cost money to replace your helicopter.

Flying an Radio Controlled helicopter requires space. When room to fly in is in short supply, a smaller sized helicopter is probably a good idea. A level open area, free from trees and overhead lines is highly desirable. Many Radio Controlled clubs have both the space to safely fly in and often allow RC helicopter pilots the time to develop their abilities.

You can learn to fly an Remote Controlled helicopter; however learning to fly takes training. Given enough time, the proficiency to fly the Radio Controlled helicopter will come. It may not be very long before the beginner becomes an "old pro" who finds themselves giving advice to the person who thinks that they might want to learn how to fly an Remote Controlled helicopter.

Scale Model Helicopters - A Great Hobby

Scale Model Helicopters - A Great Hobby

Rc Helicopter

Assembling and flying scale model helicopters is an incredible hobby. It offers a rare combination of characteristics that make it fun and interesting for its adherents. Let's examine why scale model helicopters capture the imagination--and occupy the time--of thousands of hobbyists.

First, they offer an opportunity to utilize one's attention to detail and modeling skills. Most hobbyists purchase kits and personally assemble their scale model helicopters. After putting their highly detailed helicopters together, they carefully add details and paint them to the point of hyper realism. Many people enjoy the construction and painting process a great deal and derive a tremendous sense of satisfaction when they've completed their helicopters.

Second, building the helicopters is only the beginning. Once they're put together, their owners can actually fly them! RC scale model helicopters take flight with either electric or gas-powered motors. Many of the models fly in a manner that accurately mimics the "real thing". In fact, many movies have actually used footage of RC controlled models to stand in for real helicopters.

Third, hobbyists quickly discover that an interest in scale model helicopters immediately makes them members in a tight knit community. Modelers often meet to discuss the hobby or to come together to fly their RC helicopters. It's a hobby with a great social component that many people appreciate as much as the helicopters themselves.

Fourth, building and flying scale helicopters is a perfect pastime for those with a strong interest in military or aeronautical history. Helicopters have a fascinating history and have played a key part in many significant events. It's hard to imagine a better way to experience history than by building and using a small piece of it yourself!

Fifth, scale model helicopters continue to present challenges. This isn't a hobby one can master in a matter of days, weeks or even months.
